sooo are you still writing that book?
writing updates, research developments, and opossum pictures. what more could you want from this week's issue?
hi friends,
hope you’re having a happy holiday-ish week!
i’m taking the week off to visit my grandpa & extended family in western pennsylvania, so i wanted to take the opportunity this week to answer the question so many relatives have been asking — what’s up with the book project? is that still happening? any developments?
what i haven’t told you yet
developments from the past month, happening in the background:
a few weeks ago, i participated in my first professional reading event, along with a number of published authors! the 40-or-so attendees got a sneak peak at the sample chapter from my book proposal, and the feedback was positive! a huge honor.
i’ve been invited to present at the upcoming conference of the national communal studies association, and received full scholarship funding to attend! that’ll be this october
i have an article coming out in the next issue of communities magazine — the biggest magazine on/for intentional communities — about building natural-disaster-resistance at the community level, on both sides of the country
i’ve been doing quantitative mapping of SF’s intentional communities, which is being turned into cool graphics and illustrations by a super talented artist friend of mine, and will be in print in a local publication this august!
networking, networking, networking
the networking never ends!
editing, editing, editing
the editing must end… eventually. a couple months more and i’ll cut myself off and send things out.

pictures from the reading event are still being developed, so this is what we’ve got for now
which is all to say… the book project is still happening!
in this case, no news is good news. june has been a month of a million things happening at once, and its hard enough keeping track of my email inbox, much less remembering to tell people about everything that’s going on!
plus, loyal readers will know june was a super busy month for me at my in-person job, but i’ll be going back to working part-time for the foreseeable future so that i’ll have the time, energy, and bandwidth for all these developments in my writing and research.
want to read some of my upcoming articles? you can order the next issue of communities magazine here, and you can order the next issue of SF Unscene (where my mapping graphics will be published) here.
thank you, always, for being here.
in thanks, here’s a bonus picture of me cuddling an opossum:
