You now have the option to become a paid subscriber to this newsletter!

This work is my livelihood. Pursuing research and publishing about sustainable intentional communities is both my dream career, and something I genuinely believe might be able to make a difference, or at least provide people with a bit of hope, in the crazy world we’re living in. If you find it within your means to contribute, please do!

You can also access the paid subscription page by going to our home page, grass-roots-newsletter.beehiiv.com, clicking the menu icon in the top right corner, and then clicking “Upgrade.”

There are two tier options for now, named because they’re about the price of buying me a tea/coffee or a lunch, to give some relative comparisons.

Plus, you’ll gain access to new paid-subscriber benefits like a monthly digest and new opportunities to connect with our newsletter community.

Being a paid subscriber to GRASS ROOTS newsletter is cool and also awesome.

more options to contribute

but wait, there’s more! (as they would say on TV). If these subscription options don’t feel like a good fit for you, here are two more options to support this work:

  1. We still have a sliding scale contribution feature available through PayPal that I messaged about last week. You can check it out here.

  2. Tax season is rolling in, so if you’re looking to make some last-minute tax-deductible donations, I’ve recently filed for nonprofit status. This allows me to access more grant opportunities; it also means that you can give a tax-deductible donation of your choosing directly to this project through the nonprofit!

    1. I’m calling this organization The Intentional Institute; it will generate research, policy recommendations, and municipal consulting surrounding sustainable, communal living.

    2. If you’re interested in affiliating with, or donating to, the Intentional Institute, please reach out to me. You can reply to this email, if that’s easiest

The money I receive from these subscriptions and donations will go directly towards covering my basic living expenses and towards necessary project spending — research access, ads and promos, conference fees, to name a few.

what was that about free stickers?

about the size of a business card

I’m putting these up across San Francisco and sending them to friends across the country, so they can start appearing in different cities!

The goal is to place them as broadly as possible, but especially to target aligned spaces — think community centers, activist groups, shared urban gardens, co-op common rooms, environmental orgs, third spaces.

The QR code will take them to our website, where they can browse past posts and enter their email if they’d like to subscribe — no tricks or traps.

The beauty of using physical stickers is, which is a huge chunk of sustainable communitarians.

If you’re interested in being a part of this project, I’ll mail you as many stickers as you think you can handle, for free! You can just pop them up on your local noticeboards as you go about your day. just fill out this 1-minute form to get stickers sent to you

and an art print sale coming up?

yes!! they’re coming!!

some early tests in my garage

Combining elements of the two logo designs I sent out to y’all a little bit ago, I’m working on making a blockprint that can then make prints, totes, shirts, or any other merch you’d like! those pieces will then be offered for sale, or for free for people who refer a certain number of new subscribers to the newsletter.

I learned how to do blockprinting from an awesome activist art group in Jogjakarta, Indonesia (when I was doing my gap year there) called SURVIVE!Garage — shout out to them!

Next week we’ll be back to our normal content.

Thanks for sticking around, friends. I’m really glad you’re here.

With love,

Jasper
